Future Puppy Reservation & Puppy Selection Process

This policy explains how families join our Future Litter Interest List or

Reservation List and participate in the puppy selection process.

Future Litter Application

Families interested in a future puppy should first complete our Puppy Application.

Applicants may choose one of the following options:

Future Litter Interest List
Future Litter Reservation List

All applications are reviewed prior to approval.

Future Litter Interest List

The Future Litter Interest List is for approved families who would like to receive updates about upcoming litters without securing a reservation position.

No deposit is required to join the Interest List.
Placement on the Interest List does not establish puppy selection order or reservation priority.
Families on the Interest List may receive updates about future breeding plans, pregnancy announcements, and puppy availability.
Families may request to move from the Interest List to the Reservation List if reservation positions are available.

Future Litter Reservation List

The Future Litter Reservation List is for approved families who are ready to secure a reservation position for a puppy from a future litter.

A non-refundable reservation deposit is required to secure a position on the Reservation List.
The required deposit amount, payment instructions, and reservation deadline will be provided when a reservation opportunity is offered.
Reservation List order is determined by the date the reservation deposit is received.
Reservation deposits are applied toward the final purchase price of the puppy.
Families on the Reservation List receive puppy selection priority for the applicable litter.

Future Litter Notifications

As a planned litter progresses, families on our Interest and Reservation Lists will receive updates at appropriate stages of the process.

Updates may include:

Breeding updates
Pregnancy confirmation
Expected due dates and timing
Litter announcements
Puppy availability

Families on the Reservation List will receive priority communication regarding puppy selection based on their established reservation order.

Families on the Interest List will receive updates and may be offered available Reservation List positions or puppies after reserved families have been accommodated.

After Reservation

Once your reservation deposit is received, we will confirm your reservation and keep you updated as the litter develops and the puppies grow.

Your reservation secures your position in the puppy selection order for the applicable litter.
We will provide updates and important information throughout the process.
Puppy preferences, including sex, color, markings, coat type, size, or other characteristics, cannot be guaranteed.
Final puppy selection takes place according to the Puppy Selection Process outlined below.

Reservation List Limits

To help ensure families have a reasonable opportunity to select a puppy that fits their preferences, we limit the number of reservations accepted for each planned litter.

The Reservation List will generally be limited to approximately 50% of the expected litter size.
Expected litter size is based on factors such as breed, parent history, and previous litter sizes when available.
Once the Reservation List reaches its limit, additional approved families may join the Interest List and may be offered a reservation position if one becomes available.
Storyside Kennels may adjust the number of Reservation List positions when appropriate based on the circumstances of a particular planned litter.

Multiple Reservations

Families may reserve more than one puppy when availability allows.

A separate reservation deposit is required for each puppy being reserved.
Each puppy reservation is treated separately and is subject to the applicable deposit and reservation terms.
A deposit made for one puppy cannot be used to reserve an additional puppy.

Reservation Transfers

We understand that circumstances may change. If there are not enough puppies in the litter, or the timing does not work for you, please contact us as soon as possible to discuss transferring your reservation deposit to a future litter.

A reservation may be transferred to a future litter of the same or a different breed, subject to availability and Storyside Kennels approval.
A reservation transfer may be made one time.
The reservation deposit must be used within one year of the original reservation date or it will be forfeited.
Once a reservation has been transferred, it cannot be transferred again.

Puppy Selection Process

Puppy selections are made in established reservation order, subject to puppy availability and Storyside Kennels’ Breeder Pick Policy.

Breeder Pick Policy

Storyside Kennels may retain first pick of the litter when we are considering keeping a puppy for our breeding program.

If we choose to exercise breeder pick, reserved families will be notified before puppy selection begins.
Breeder pick takes priority over all Reservation List positions.
If we do not exercise breeder pick, puppy selection will begin with the first family on the Reservation List.

Selection Guidelines for Reserved Families

When the puppies are around 1 week old, Storyside Kennels will begin contacting reserved families to make their selections based on puppy availability and reservation order.
Please keep your contact information, including phone number and email address, up to date so we can reach you promptly when it is time to make your selection.
Families may provide preferences regarding sex, color, and markings; however, preferences are not guaranteed. Selections are made from the puppies available when it is that family’s turn to choose.
Families will have 48 hours to respond after being contacted to make their selection.
- If we do not receive a response within 48 hours, we may move to the next family in reservation order. We will make reasonable efforts to reconnect with you regarding any puppies that remain available.
If you decide to switch to another puppy after making your initial selection, you may choose from any puppies still available at that time.
